Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) are the larvae of the darkling beetle (commonly referred to as the "mealworm beetle"). They are an excellent food source for reptiles, fish, birds, chickens, and exotic pets. They are exceptionally high in protein, making them a food staple for many animals. In spring, wild birds need a steady supply of high-protein grubs while raising their young. Put mealworms outside in a dish and you'll soon have a parade of wild birds visiting your yard!
